Fireworks Over Cripple Creek

This is a favorite of many, although some struggle to understand why on earth I've developed a fireworks image as black and white. Yes, I know, nobody else has given a fireworks display this kind of treatment, at least not since color film has been invented but honestly, this image needed to be black and white—it makes it much more dramatic.

Hey Look—Cows!

Every time I see this image I laugh at the bemused look of the middle and right cows. For some reason they look like they're expecting me to give them a sales pitch for encyclopedias.

Taken high in the Rocky Mountains the low angle of the sun and the beautiful mountains in the backdrop give this image extra interest.

Old Car in Snow

One person's garbage is another person's treasure. At least sometimes it is, like when I came across this old abandoned Chevy I had taken a picture of during the Fall. As I walked past on this day the contrast of car on snow caught my attention and I took this photo with a head-on perspective. I have a color version of this image as well that I like even more but this is one of the few times I listened to others as they were in favor of the black and white version 3:1. It looks great and I'm glad I took the time to set up and capture this image when I saw it out of the corner of my eye.

Welcome Bigfoot

I love coming across works of art that are out of the ordinary, something that somebody has put a lot of time and effort and creativity into just for the love of it.

Driving the back roads of Clackamah County in Oregon with my brother-in-law we came to a curve in the road and I had to pull over and take this shot. Setting up in the middle of the road while my brother-in-law kept an eye out for cars I was able to snap a series of shots. There is so much going on here that it took some time to figure out how to frame this image.

At first I named this image "Skull Ranch" but ended up settling on the title "Welcome Bigfoot" and you can probably see why if you look close enough.

Fall Colors Collection

Printed on metallic paper to make the colors pop!

A Drive Down Shelf Road—Fall Colors Collection—Printed on metallic paper that makes the colors really pop!

Shown is: "Cripple Creek in Fall" -medium 8X12 on Left

"Shelf Road"- large 12X18 center

"Rock Outcropping" -medium 8X12 on right

Shelf Road, a popular scenic route just outside of Cripple Creek, Colorado. Making it's way through rugged and beautiful gold country is about 28 miles long and will take you all the way to Canyon City. Back in the 1890's this was a popular area for gold mining and you can see evidence of that all along the drive. Before the gold rush, the Pony Express used to use this road to deliver the mail from Cripple Creek to Canyon City and if you dropped off a letter in those days in Cripple Creek it took one day to reach Canyon City. If you would like to drop off a letter today in Cripple Creek, it will take 3 days to get to Canyon City!

Not as rugged or treacherous as legend implies, it is one of the anticipated destinations for tourists and a favorite among locals.

These three images create a collage that represents just a small portion of the beauty you will find along this route but of course you can choose just one in the size you want along with any of the other prints in this collection.

Old Friends

During my stint as a stream train engineer this site, as seen from the other side, was a favorite among many passengers. My job there also gave me privileges to set up and take any pictures I wanted. I set up on several different days trying to capture just the right light and angle for this shot and finally got an image I was very happy with. I also captured the car on the right which is available in the Black and White Collection called "Old Chevy in Snow"

Columbia River Gorge

Historic Highway 30

Collection

Printed on metallic paper to emphasize the rich colors and textures found in this area

Vista House From Washington Side

This is The Vista House on Crown Point as seen from the Washington side.

I spent several hours trying to locate the perfect spot to capture the Vista House along with the seldom seen (from the Oregon side) seasonal creek and waterfall. I finally found a great spot and waited a couple hours for the best lighting. Finally, during the last hour of daylight, I took a series of shots and this was my favorite one.

I absolutely love the textures and colors in the Columbia River Gorge and this picture is a prime example of it.

Crown Point with the Vista House in the vertical orientation.

Overlooking the Columbia River with a spectacular cloud formation reflecting the sun rise, this picture encapsulates the beauty that Highway 30 was created for.

Vista House

One might think that it is called the "Vista" House because it's so beautiful to look at, however, the views of the Columbia River and the Gorge from here are awesome to behold!

The rock wall seen in the foreground is a good example of walls and benches seen all along highway 30. Beautiful in and of itself it reminds you of a bygone era where aesthetics were an important enough consideration that investing extra resources was worth it.

Multnomah Falls From the Right

Taken from a different angle than the standard "straight on" view this picture places the great waterfall in context with the deep colors of the rain forest.

During early Spring is my favorite time to take waterfall pictures because the leaves haven't yet blocked all the views and the water flow is at it's highest.

Vista House Horizontal

This is the Columbia River Gorge and the grandeur and beauty of this area is why Highway 30 was created as a scenic byway in the first place. Right smack in the middle of the picture is the Vista House resting on Crown Point itself. The day I took this picture the early morning sun played a light show through stormy clouds that created a great depth and color intensity especially when printed onmetallic paper.

Limited Edition Prints

Almighty Mountains and Happy Little Trees

In an homage to Bob Ross, who's paintings often included mountains, trees, and barns, I am proud to present this stunning image of the Eagle Cap Wilderness in the Wallowa Mountains of Oregon.

Captured right after the first snow of the year you can still see the evergreen trees at timberline over the dusted floor. These are my favorite kind of snow images as the detail of the mountains remains adding a beautiful contrast that creates a wonderfully dramatic scene.

This large image is also "printed" using a very unique process. I put "printed" in quotes because the image is not so much printed but bathed in a chemical bath like film after being exposed to lasers creating an incredibly detailed print. If you take a loop or magnifying glass and inspect it very close you will not find dots as you would a normal or giclee print but instead a continuous tone, the resulting image is breathtaking in depth and detail.

This print is offered in a limited run of 100 for both the large and extra large sizes combined. Smaller sizes of 12"X18" and below are open edition.

Sizes listed are for the print only at this time. I am experimenting with framing options that I hope to offer soon.
